BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The former Trinity Baptist Church caught fire Sunday, leaving crews to demolish parts of the vacant building.

The Buffalo Fire Department says the fire started just before noon in the rear of the church.

The building is located at Genesee and Spruce Streets. The church was empty and no one was injured.

Fire crews say they ordered emergency demolition of the building because it became structurally unsafe.

Crews didn’t have any trouble battling the fire, but the chief says there are occasional problems with water pressure in the area.

“Around here we have water problems a lot but today it worked out okay. If the whole place was going then maybe we’d have problems. But they were looking fine into the rear of the building,” Chief Michael Biasillo said.

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 of damage.

Crews are still investigating what started the fire.
