“Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?” asks Jaylah Bell.
People’s eyes light up and then they usually give in to the 10-year-old. Some search frantically for cash before Bell tells them they accept credit cards.
“It actually shows the girls how to do a complete transaction,” said Raven Bell, Jaylah’s mom and troop volunteer.
Bell says the card process is one way the organization is working to incorporate STEM learning with badge earning.
“They need to know excellent customer service skills, how to make eye contact, how to deal with different personalities.”
The girls are also using math skills, creating a business plan, setting goals.
“These are skill they’re going to need when they’re older.”
Bell says she’s grateful the organization is around teaching her girls and thousands of others skills like this.
