Governor Andrew Cuomo’s newest proposal would prevent the public from receiving mugshots and general arrest information.
Gov. Cuomo is looking to ban mugshots and booking information from being released by law enforcement agencies when they make an arrest.
The ban, however, would not include photos of suspects if police are seeking the public’s help for information finding fugitives.
The Governor told the Albany Times Union that the law would prevent websites from charging large fees to people to have their mugshots taken down.
Press advocates argue it’s a poorly written bill that could keep arrest records from being made public.
