Governor Cuomo signs bill to ban “gay-panic” defense

NEW YORK (WIVB)– A new bill signed by Governor Cuomo outlaws the “gay-panic” defense.

Before this, those accused of violent attacks could say they were under extreme distress and panicked when the victim revealed their sexuality.

Governor Cuomo signed the bill as he was taking part in New York City’s LGBTQ pride march.
