It’s been feeling like spring outside, and that means crews are starting repairs at the Erie Basin Marina.
Some of the marina’s docks were knocked off their moorings.
Wood and steel structures ended up damaged, and some needed to be removed altogether.
Ice and high winds whipped up the water this winter.
So, in some spots, the damage is worse than we’ve seen in other western New York winters.
James Marinello, with Smith Boys Marine Group, said “At one point during that windstorm, when it was over 70 miles per hour, the ice did actually come up to this main dock, lifted these up, five to six-foot rise in the ice along here.”
Smith Boys Marina Group hopes to have the work finished so that the Erie Basin Marina is ready for boats on May 1.
