Judge denies McMurray campaign’s request to impound ballot boxes

News

Judge Dennis Ward voted to deny Democratic Congressional candidate Nate McMurray’s campaign’s request to impound the ballot boxes on Monday afternoon.

The request came earlier in the day.

Commissioners for both parties and lawyers for McMurray met about the “temporary restraining order” or impounding of the ballots at the Erie County Board of Election headquarters. Commissioners from across Western New York were conferenced into the meeting.

Lawyers representing McMurray’s campaign said they made the impounding request, which would require a local sheriff to stand watch over election headquarters across every county, to prevent “election irregularities.”

The state Board of Elections, and every county commissioner, called the request “unnecessary.”
