Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives in Pompano Beach, Florida are investigating the death of a Lancaster man.
Officials say 67-year-old Paul Elmore was found unresponsive during a dive on Saturday.
Elmore was diving with South Florida Diving Headquarters, east of the Hillsboro Inlet in Pompano Beach, when he lost consciousness, according to the sheriff’s office.
Fellow divers rescued him and began first aid. The sheriff’s marine unit also responded to the artificial reef wreck and performed first aid on Elmore as they took him to shore.
He was taken to Broward Health North where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation into the matter continues and the Broward County medical examiner and trauma services will determine the cause of death.
Elmore was a retired teacher at Depew High School.
