BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Local hospitals joined together on Monday evening to call on the government to approve more research funding for childhood cancers.
The Shine Gold fundraiser at Buffalo Harbor State Park came just before the start of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.
Women and Children’s Hospital, Roswell Park and UB are joining forces with local groups.
“The funding for childhood cancer is very lacking, it’s really at the bottom of the pile and our kids are fighting with antiquated treatments” said Lisa Riniolo, with Melina’s White Light Foundation. “They need to step up to the plate and raise some more money so we can specifically research for kids with cancer.”
Cancer affects more than 16,000 children every year, the average age is just eight years old.
