2 killed in crash on Hudson Ave. in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) - Two people are dead after a tractor trailer went off the roadway and hit a county worker in Rochester Friday morning.

Firefighters say the tractor trailer was headed east on Route 104 when it went off the roadway and down the embankment towards Hudson Avenue.

At the time, two county workers were doing repairs on the sewer. One was above ground and the other was in the grate. Firefighters say the worker above ground was able to get out of the way, but one in the grate was struck and killed.

The tractor trailer also hit a light pole and another vehicle. The driver of the truck was pinned in the cab after the crash and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters are calling the crash a "gruesome and tragic incident."

The area has been blocked off while an investigation is underway. Police are asking drivers to avoid Hudson Avenue near Route 104.
