BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The latest show at Shakespeare Hill could be the most traditional show Shakespeare in Delaware Park has ever produced. For the second show of the 40th anniversary season, the company is doing something that is that never done before.
In this production of Twelfth Night, all of the roles are played by men. Using only male actors on stage was the law in Shakespeare’s time, and the company wanted to honor that tradition with this production.
This production is special for another reason, too. It’s the final show on the current stage at Shakespeare Hill. Following a successful public fundraising campaign, the production company decided to invest in a new stage and lighting set up, which will debut next season. “This particular stage has been here for twenty years out of our forty years, so next year is going to be brand new,” Managing Director Lisa Ludwig told News 4.
Twelfth Night runs through August 16th. Performances are free and begin at 7:30. There are no shows on Mondays.
