HUME, N.Y. (WIVB)– State Police say Troopers responded to two separate hot air balloon accidents in the Town of Hume on Thursday.
At 7:48 p.m. patrols were dispatched to the accidents, the first being in a field off Mills Road and found one hot air balloon with eight passengers and a pilot.
One passenger was taken by ambulance to the Dansville Hospital for a leg injury, they were later released.
According to police, four passengers and a pilot were found off Country Road 23, the scene of the second accident.
Two passengers suffered minor head injuries after being ejected from the basket. They were taken to the Warsaw Hospital by ambulance and were released.
Pilots of both balloons say a thermal uplift caused the pilots to lose control, resulting in both accidents. Having hard landings contributed to the injuries, according to the pilots.
Authorities notified the FAA, and the investigation continues.
