Amherst boutique boosts confidence for breast cancer survivors

Local News

Michelle Bliss of Cheektowaga has beaten breast cancer twice. She’s had a mastectomy each time.

“They actually remove the complete breast tissue. So, your complete breast is removed,” said Bliss.

She said the process made her feel very self-conscious. A special bra from AuNaturel Boutique in Amherst helped get her confidence back.

“They measure you, so they measure your good side – your real side. They fit you with a prosthesis to fit inside a bra that has a little pocket in there to fit this prosthesis which looks like a breast form,” said Bliss.

AuNaturel is dedicated to women who are breast cancer survivors. Things like specialty bras, prosthetics, athletic wear, wigs, and causal clothing are sold in the store.

“You go through the diagnosis, you go through the treatment, and this we feel is the final piece of the puzzle to make them more confident. It is to go back out into the world and conquer which is what survivors are doing,” said the boutique’s owner, Eileen Tramont.

She told us services at the boutique can be billed to insurance. There is usually a co-pay, but the bulk of the cost is off-set by insurance as long as your doctor orders it.

Bliss said the women at the boutique made what was a daunting process, less scary.

She is now happy, healthy, and cancer free.

AuNaturel is located at 3915 Sheridan Drive. The boutique is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
