Youngs Road in Amherst is a major connector for the area’s roadways – because of this, it sees a lot of traffic.
Now the town’s leaders are looking to alleviate that congestion with plans of creating a new traffic pattern.
Town Supervisor Brian Kulpa said the town is looking to widen the area near the intersection of Youngs Road and Wehrle Drive, as well as add in an interchange for the Thruway. Kulpa said this would happen through a proposed partnership with the Greater Buffalo Niagara Transportation Council, the Department of Transportation and the NYS Thruway Authority.
Kulpa said this would be the best time to add in the interchange now that the state is working on them across New York for its cashless tolls project.
The plan is still in the early stages, and the town is currently studying traffic patterns with what will best fit the area.
