The New York State Department of Transportation wants to remind drivers to stop before proceeding when approaching a traffic signal that isn’t working.

Officials say to proceed according to the right of way rules, except when directed to proceed by a police officer.

In the event of a closed or blocked roadway due to snow, down power lines or debris, drives should exercise caution and obey all traffic signs or barricades in place, regardless of whether a roadway looks clear, according to authorities.

NYSDOT signal crews will work with local energy provides to restore power as soon as quickly and efficiently as possible.
