Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson spent Tuesday helping some local kids get ready to go back to school.
Lawson handed out dozens of backpacks filled with school supplies to about 50 kids, aged five to 13, at the Sonic Drive-In in Cheektowaga.
The kids were from the William-Emslie Branch YMCA on Buffalo’s East Side.
The YMCA said that Lawson reached out to them to make the giveaway happen.
“It’s something I did back at home, I started giving out bags in South Carolina,” Lawson said. “I feel like, I’m in this city playing for the Buffalo Bills, it will be something good to come back in the community of Buffalo- a team that took a chance on me, drafted me, giving me opportunities, to look out for their kids in their community- I want to continue doing more things like this for Buffalo as long as I’m here.”
