BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo Police say Buffalo-resident Marquino Green, 38, was shot and killed in the 1200 block of Broadway just before 3 a.m. Sunday.
Green was transported to ECMC where he was later pronounced dead.
According to Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo, the shooting happened in the parking lot of Club 1210, also known as the Groove Lounge.
Steven Cohen, the attorney representing the club's owners, told News 4 Sunday evening the shooting happened just before 3 a.m. when Green left the club and got into his car.
According to Cohen, the suspect was never inside the club. He said it was an "unfortunate coincidence" that the shooting took place outside the club.
The lounge was in the spotlight in July 2018. Two people, including an off-duty Buffalo Police Officer, were shot outside the bar. Buffalo Commissioner Byron Lockwood ordered the bar shut down.
It later re-opened after surveillance cameras were installed.
"The Buffalo Police carefully examined the footage from all of the cameras inside and outside the club and noted absolutely no to illegalities, no misconduct on anyone's part inside the club," said Cohen.
The Groove Lounge announced in a Facebook post Sunday afternoon the establishment would be closed Sunday and Monday. Cohen said the club will re-open on Tuesday for normal hours. He said the owners needed a break after working around the clock with police.
Captain Rinaldo told News 4 investigators will keep looking into the incident. Commissioner Lockwood will issue another order to shut the bar down if investigators deem the action is appropriate.
