The City of Tonawanda Police says a Buffalo man faces four charges after picking up and throwing a 15-year-old boy into the Erie Canal.

It happened at the Canal Fest at 7:30 p.m., according to police.

20-year-old Austin W. Terry of Holling Drive in Buffalo was taken into custody after police say he carried the boy to the canal break wall, near the Deleware Street Bridge in the city, and threw him into the canal.

Officials tell News 4 this happened after a female approached Terry and told him the 15-year-old boy was “harassing her.”

The 15-year-old boy was able to swim to a nearby boat. An officer on an ATV in the area took Terry into custody after witnessing the incident.

He was charged with 2nd-degree Reckless Endangerment, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 2nd-degree Harassment, and possession of marijuana.

Terry was arraigned this morning with bail set at $1500.
