Buffalo Police are warning city residents not to leave their vehicles running while unattended as the weather gets colder.

Police warn that running, unattended cars are an attractive target for auto thieves.

“Every year, we see an increase in stolen vehicle reports from people who leave their vehicles running in their driveways, gas stations, etc.,” police warned in a Tuesday Facebook post. “There have even been instances of children left alone in a running vehicle when the car was stolen.”

Police also warn that vehicle owners are subject to a traffic ticket if their vehicle is stolen with the keys inside.
