Buffalo police officer no longer allowed to testify on his own arrests

Local News

The Buffalo police officer who was charged with assaulting a handcuffed inmate and lying about the 2017 incident can no longer testify on his own arrests.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn says Officer Joseph Hassett has “problems of credibility and cannot be called as a witness at trial.”

Hassett was charged with assault, official misconduct and other crimes, and tried to cover up the incident by blaming other officers.

He was later found not guilty and was reinstated to the police force in May of 2018.
