Buffalo RiverWorks just announced its newest creation, a beer called “The Dominator” named after the farmer Sabres goaltender Dominik Hasek.
It’s a Czech pilsner with a 5.8 alcohol content. Head Brewer Chris Herr says the beer is light but aggressively hoppy just like the way “The Dominator” played on the ice.
“So we actually imported all the ingredients for this beer from the Czech Republic, figuring that it would be perfect to bring it from Dominik’s hometown into Buffalo,” Herr said.
The beer comes in a silver 16 ounce can, with a picture of Hasek on the front.
“We figured there’s a lot of people in Buffalo who are huge Dominik Hasek fans, all of us included, and we almost wanted it to be like an old hockey card,” said Herr.
Part of the proceeds from the beer sales to The Hasek’s Heroes Foundation. The foundation helps local children play hockey.
“The foundation helps out inner-city children who are in need to learn to play the game of ice hockey,” said Sean Green, director of athletics. “It’s a very expensive sport, and Dominik’s $1 million contribution, back in 2001, help spearhead The Hasek’s Heroes Foundation.”
This is the very first time the brewery is canning beer. Prior to this, you could only get their beers on draft in the restaurant, kegs or growlers.
The beer is available in four packs starting Thursday.
