BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — UPDATE: Police have identified the man as 35-year-old Kevin Emmons of Buffalo.
A man’s body was found inside a home on the 200 block of Box Avenue, police confirm.
Officers responded to the call of a dead body just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sources tell us the man was shot and killed about 12 hours before being discovered. Authorities say an autopsy will be conducted by Erie County medical examiners to determine the cause of death.
Friends describe Emmons as a funny, caring man and a big fan of the Buffalo Bills. They say he was at every game, at every tailgate and was supposed to attend yesterday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
Valentino Shine Jr., who grew up with Emmons, says he shocked to hear the news.
“He loved his city, he loved his people, he loved his sisters, he loved his nieces, he loved his nephews, he loved his family. He’d do anything for his family, he didn’t play about his family, he’s just a good guy. All the attributes you would want for a young black man to have to be a contributing citizen to america, Kev had them,” said Shine, Jr.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Erie County Medical Examiners Office.
It is the same block where police said human remains were found in a burn pit about one month ago. We’re told forensic experts are still working to identify those remains.
While it’s unclear at this time if either of those cases are connected, sources tell us it is unlikely that they are. Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call or text the BPD confidential tip line at (716) 847-2255.
