BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)–A crusader for Buffalo’s African-American community, and its history, has died.
In 1974 Bishop William Henderson took over the Michigan Street Baptist Church and fought to preserve the building.
He also made sure people knew about the church’s role in the underground railroad as a waystation for escaped slaves looking to find freedom in Canada.
Bishop William Henderson was 85 years old.
