Longtime Auxiliary Bishop with Catholic Diocese of Buffalo intends to retire

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Auxiliary Bishop of the Buffalo Catholic Diocese is asking the church for permission to retire.

Edward Grosz turns 75 in just under a month.

Catholic canon law dictates that bishops relinquish their administrative duties at that time.

Albany Bishop Edward Scharfenberger says he’s asked Grosz to continue celebrating masses and other roles with the church.
