18-year-old man charged in crash involving ambulance

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police are investigating an accident involving an ambulance in downtown Buffalo. It happened just around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

According to police, the ambulance was responding to an emergency call, heading south on Washington St., when it was hit by a car near the intersection of E. Tupper St.

The accident caused heavy damage to the car, and the ambulance was flipped onto its side.

Paramedics took two ambulance crew members and the driver of the car to the hospital. The ambulance crew members have since been released.

The car driver, 18-year-old Buffalo resident Mikel Ayala, was charged with forgery, criminal impersonation and identity theft, along with traffic violations.

Police say Ayala gave them a false name.
