BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – On Thursday morning, a vehicle crashed into the monument at Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo.
Just before 7:30 a.m., police say the black minivan was moving south on Delaware Ave. “at an extremely high rate of speed” before it crashed into the monument. Marble barriers were knocked down.
The 40-year-old male driver is in critical condition at ECMC, but the 34-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Buffalo identified her as Angel Marie Cobb on Friday.
Both Cobb and the driver were identified as Buffalo residents.
Friday, Excuria Salon & Spa in Williamsville and Casting Buffalo, a casting agency, are mourned Cobb, who was a member of their respective teams. Both businesses remember Cobb as a talented stylist and devoted mother, who used her talents both in the salon chair and on local movie sets.
“We are absolutely devastated by Angel’s tragic loss. She was a beautiful soul that brought laughter and love to our film community. We cherish our memories of Angel on and off set and send our deepest condolences, and support to her family.”Casting Buffalo
Corey Dilday, a close friend of Cobb’s and fellow colleague at Excuria, said her death is devastating.
“She was just such a bright, vibrant personality that is going to be so missed,” he said. “She just…there were no strangers to her, she talked to everyone, she made friends with everybody.”
Dilday told News 4 the two met in cosmetology school seven years ago before eventually ending up working at the same salon together for the past couple of years.
“Working on the movies was her dream, and that was, you know, really exciting that she got to do that,” Dilday said emotionally.
Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo says this is a first for him. A criminal investigation is ongoing, and officers are looking for any eyewitnesses who may have seen the vehicle before it crashed.
