FieriCon is underway as several bars on Hertal Avenue celebrate everything Guy Fieri for a good cause.

The event which runs until 6 p.m. will benefit Feedmore WNY, a cause that’s imortant to event organizer Tina Anderson.

From her volunteer experience with the food bank, Anderson knows that summer can be a tough time for some.

“It’s not the winter when they need the most help, but the summer when kids are out of school and they’re not getting their subsidized lunches or breakfasts,” Anderson said. “This time of year, they have a lot more people they need to help.”

Each participating bar or restaurant- Garage Cafe and Lounge, The Public House, Gramma Mora’s, Gecko’s, The Sterling, Lloyd Taco Factory, and Del Denby Tavern- will be donating a portion of their proceeds from the day to Feedmore WNY.

Additionally, collection bins will be at Gramma Mora’s, with some special Guy Fieri-themed prizes in exchange for donations.

Anderson said she hopes to make it an annual event in Buffalo.

“A lot of people are so into it- they think it’s hysterical,” Anderson said. “It’s very kitschy and fun and will inspire so many people to be creative with their outfits.”

Though the celebrity chef most likely won’t be making an appearance at Saturday’s event, he’s no stranger to Buffalo.

Fieri has featured Lake Effect Diner, Sophia’s, and Blackthorn Restaurant and Pub on his show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”.
