Buffalo’s Most Amazing Race adds exciting new challenge

Local News

Buffalo’s Most Amazing Race is back in 2019, and this summer, an exciting new challenge is being added to the race.

The event, on July 27, is similar to the tv show it’s named after: participants race around Buffalo with challenges along the way. The challenges can be physical, mental or both. They’ll take you to areas of the Queen City you may have never been to before, and have you do activities you may have never done.

“I have not worn a helmet like this before, so this is a newbie for me,” Laurie Krajna said, the development director for the Salvation Army in Buffalo.

The race is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army, and this year, one challenge will include the ropes course and zipline at Riverworks.

“We’ve got a low ropes course, and a high ropes course that ends in a zipline,” Krajna said. “And so my team is here today to try and figure out how we can make this a challenge for the race. (It’s) something fun that people might not have done already.”

Krajna invited News 4’s Kelsey Anderson along, as the team tried out the course.

There are about a dozen different challenges around the city. This is the 4th year the Salvation Army has put together the race. Every year the challenges change. Teams of two either run, walk or take the bus to each challenge. The bus is free for participants on race day.

“Just because you’re a fast runner, or athletic doesn’t mean you’re going to win.”

There are prizes for winners. The team that finishes first wins $1,000. Participants are asked to raise $250 each for the Salvation Army.

“The Salvation Army has the only family homeless shelter in town,” Krajna said. “We have food pantries all over town. Last year, we served over 130,000 in the Buffalo area alone. (We have) employment services programs, supervised visitation programs. So really, a ton of programs feeding, clothing, employing, (and) basic needs for those in our community.”
