Catholic Charities is still working to reach their fundraising goal of $11 Million, and so far has only raised $8.7 Million, with one month let to go. Leadership at the organization says the lag in donations could be due to the Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandal.
“So people are, rightfully so, people are confused, their angry, they’re upset with the Catholic church,“ said Dennis Walczyk, president and ceo of Catholic Charities.
“We understand that you’re upset, we empathize with you, but don’t take it out on the people that really need help, by not giving to catholic charities.“
Catholic Charities helps hundreds of organizations across Western New York like the Back to Basics Outreach Ministries.
