A Cattaraugus County man has been accused of filing a false police report after New York State Police say he lied about his truck being stolen and requested the responsible party to be arrested.

Matthew Mansfield, 26, of Steamburg, was charged Thursday with third degree falsely reporting an incident, making a punishable false written statement, and third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

According to police reports, four days prior to his arrest, Mansfield called 911 to report that his truck was stolen from his property.

Mansfield also signed a deposition requesting that the person or persons responsible be arrested.

An investigation revealed that Mansfield’s truck had malfunctioned while he was driving it and he walked home when he was unable to get it restarted.

Mansfield was issued appearance ticket.
