Cheektowaga Police deal with multiple fights at Walden Galleria Wednesday evening

Cheektowaga Police responded to calls of fights and disorderly kids starting at 6:31 p.m. at the Walden Galleria.

The calls were handled by police officers assigned to the mall.

About an hour later a call of shots fired came in, which turned out to be false and was attributed to a metal sign that was knocked over by the kids running the concourse, according to officials.

Police say many stores began to close their security gates and enacted ” lockdown” to prevent issues when they witnessed large groups engaging in fights. Several stores did reopen at 8:30 p.m.

Two arrests were made this evening, one for disorderly conduct and a second for menacing. No injuries are reported at this time.

Pyramid Management Group, LLC, released the following statement Thursday afternoon:

“Safety is and remains our highest priority at Walden Galleria. The incidents that took place between disorderly youth acquaintances are absolutely unacceptable, incredibly disruptive and undermine the tireless efforts made by our security team, community partners and local law enforcement agencies to make Walden Galleria a yearround family friendly destination. We are cooperating fully and actively participating with the Cheektowaga Police department in the ongoing investigation and remain committed to providing a safe environment for our guests, employees and tenants.”

Pyramid also said that starting immediately, there will be an increased security and police presence in place at the mall through the rest of the holiday season, and that the mall’s parental escort policy will be strictly enforced.

Walden Galleria has a parental escort policy from 4 p.m. until close on Friday and Saturday evenings. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 years of age or older.
