Hazmat crew responds to oil well fire in Cattaraugus County

ALLEGANY, N.Y. (WIVB) - Shortly after 5:30 a.m., crews in Cattaraugus County responded to an oil well fire in the Town of Allegany.

The fire occurred on Flatstone Rd. near Chipmonk Rd. The oil well is reported to be owned by Vertical Energy, the Cattaraugus County Office of Emergency Services says.

A hazmat team and the DEC responded to assess the scene, where an estimated 150 gallons of oil was spilled, but contained.

By 10:30 a.m., the fire was extinguished.

No one was reported to be injured and there is no threat to the Allegheny River or major water supplies.
