LANCASTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — Concerned parents in the Lancaster Central School District are asking questions about the status of a high school teacher, after allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The allegations have become so popular, they prompted a response from the district’s superintendent.
Multiple parents have reached out to News4 about the alleged relationship through phone calls, emails and social media. All of them have concerned the same teacher, who News4 is not naming because they have not been charged with a crime.
Parents also have said the teacher was not in school last week, and that all of their belongings were removed from their classroom.
Lancaster Superintendent posted a letter on the district’s website assuring parents the issue has been vetted.
“There is much speculation at this point regarding a matter concerning one of our teachers,” the letter reads. “We have a strong track record of being open and communicating on reported situations after we have completed a thorough investigation and working with the appropriate authorities. In fact, we regularly communicate and cooperate with law enforcement. As everyone is aware, we need to be mindful of our legal obligations.
“At this time, we can confirm that there is no criminal investigation being conducted by the police regarding a teacher in our district.”
Officials from Lancaster police, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police confirmed there were no criminal investigations ongoing.
A spokeswoman for the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said the same.
“Our office did a preliminary inquiry into this matter and at this time no further criminal investigation is being conducted,” Kait Munro said.
