BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo has made determinations on four priests who were accused of abuse or improper conduct.
Those priests are Friars Michael P. Juran, Robert M. Yetter, Joseph C. Gatto and Samuel T. Giangreco.
The Diocese says allegations of child sex abuse against Juran have been substantiated, and that he will remain on administrative leave. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican in Rome will make the final determination on that case.
On the contrary, the child sex abuse allegations against Yetter have not been substantiated, but he will remain on administrative leave, as allegations are still being considered.
According to the Diocese, complaints about improper conduct by Gatto and Giangreco were made by adults.
Giangreco was accused of improper conduct involving a woman. The genders of the adults who complained about Gatto were not specified.
Both had been placed on administrative leave, but after reviews by the Independent Diocesan Review Board, it was determined that Gatto and Giangreco’s conduct did not meet the level that would require their removal from active ministry.
The recommendations were accepted by Bishop Richard Malone, who will determine their next assignments.
