Dozens of people attended tonight’s Niagara Wheatfield School board meeting to speak out against the school’s decision to allow a student accused of rape to keep attending school.
Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich started the meeting by speaking to the crowd, saying the school district removed the suspect as soon as they learned he plead guilty to rape.
He also said those who participated in a walkout to protest the school’s decision should not have faced consequences.
Many spoke out against the school’s handling of the entire incident, including the woman who identified herself as the victim’s mother.
“That was one of the most difficult things that I’ve ever had to do in my life was just read in her own words the violation and how she felt and the disrespect from the entire school all year long,” the victim’s mother said.
The mother and several others are also calling for the resignation of Niagara Wheatfield High School Principal Michael Mann.
School board leaders say those who feel this way and have additional concerns should email the superintendent.
