Dress for Success is a worldwide organization. The Buffalo chapter here on Hertel avenue is one of 152 affiliates.

Through the non-profit hundreds of local women in need are given professional work attire like suits and dresses.

“We know that there is a population of women out there that cannot afford proper attire. We hear it all the time when we go to job training programs, to job fairs,” said Michelle Barron, Dress for Success Buffalo Executive Director.

Dress for Success Buffalo fills that gap by helping local women put together a professional look in the workplace.

“The women that donate to us, they donate high end items. They donate things that they would wear,” said Va Liiza Silsby, volunteer coordinator.

The non-profit provides designer dresses, suits and other essentials to complete the outfit like coats, accessories, shoes, and handbags.

“We partner with about 40-50 agencies throughout the city of Buffalo, it is a referral process we don’t take walk ins off the street,” said Barron.

Executive Director Michelle Barron says their mission is not only to help women prepare for the job interview, but to also put them on a path to becoming self sufficient.

“Once they secure the job then they could come back to dress for success and receive a weeks worth of clothing,” said Barron.

“You want to strive for better when you feel good about yourself and when you’re encouraged. And that’s what we want to do here at Dress for Success always,” said Silsby.
