Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport announced its 2020 transformation plan today.
The plan is designed to put resources into clinical services that the community needs and uses while assuring sustainability in the future.
Hospital officials say they have experienced financial challenges and those challenges are impacting the entire organization like many other smaller community hospitals.
Changes will result in a $2.1 million saving, according to ENH.
This plan includes:
- Planning for the emergency room expansion project
- Seeking state grants for debt relief and IT implementation
- Investing in UBMD Emergency Medicine
- Investing in Great Lakes Medical Imaging
- Discontinuing maternity at ENH’s Lockport site
- Discontinuing dialysis, radiology services and Express Care at the Newfane site
- Continuing family medicine clinic at 475 Transit Street
- Achieving and maintaining DNV-GL accreditation to further quality of care throughout the hospital system.
“We acknowledge that these modifications are difficult, and will impact a number of patients, staff and physicians. However, it’s our responsibility and duty to rectify this situation and strategically re-model the services we offer in order to remain viable for the future. By making these changes now, we will be addressing the future of ENH and to put our resources into the services that are sustainable for the community,” Eastern Niagara Hospital President and CEO Anne McCaffrey said.
Patients in need of urgent care services and radiology can utilize the Express Care and radiology services in Lockport.
Those patients currently using dialysis services in Newfane will be connected to another outpatient dialysis facility in the region.
