AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — A tree which fell into one man’s yard may have saved the life of an elderly neighbor.

Police say the tree, which was on an elderly man’s property fell into his neighbor’s lawn. When that neighbor checked out the damage, he says he noticed his neighbor’s home was on fire and called for help.

Firefighters from Eggertsville Hose Company were on the scene within two minutes and called for backup. When firefighters broke inside, they rescued an elderly man from a room towards the front of the house.

First responders rushed the man to the Erie County Medical Center and was treated for smoke inhalation.

The man’s home was damaged for roughly $150,000.
