Both members of a local K-9 team will be wearing armor.

A vest for K9 Apollo, of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, was donated by Vested Interest.

The Massachusetts-based charity’s mission is to provide bullet and stab-protective vests to dogs in law enforcement throughout the U.S.

Apollo, who is certified in narcotics detection, tracking, police services and handler protection, works with Deputy Galbraith.

Sheriff Timothy Howard said “Apollo is the latest work dog in our K9 Unit to receive body armor from Vested Interest in K9s, and the compassion and dedication this organization has for law enforcement K9s is tremendous. I appreciated their work and having them as partners protecting my Deputies.”
