Cheektowaga Chief of Police passes away

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Assistant Chief of Police in Cheektowaga, Brian Gould, says Chief Michael Sliwinski has died.

Chief Sliwinski was 55 years old.

Gould says Sliwinski was sick Saturday morning and died in the hospital. He passed away from an apparent heart attack, as noted in his obituary. He’s survived by his two brothers, aunt, uncle and more.

His family will be present to receive relatives and friends on July 20 and July 21 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Melvin J. Sliwinski Funeral Home on 5090 Transit Road. Funeral Services will be held on July 22 at 8:30 a.m. followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Louis Church.

On Thursday, Main St. in Buffalo will be closed from Virginia St. to Goodell St. from 9:30 a.m. to Noon.

In addition to his public service as chief of police, Sliwinski was a New York State licensed funeral director at the Melvin J. Sliwinski Funeral Home. Instead of flowers, it’s asked any memorial donations be made to the Ten Lives Club in Blasdell.

“Please keep his family and our CPD family in your thoughts and prayers,” Gould wrote.
