Police investigating suspicious death in Cheektowaga

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in Cheektowaga are investigating a suspicious death.

Early Sunday morning, shortly after 3:30, police responded to an address on Raymond Ave.

When they got there, they found the body of a 34-year-old woman. It’s not clear what led to her death, but detectives are investigating the matter.

“We’ve never had anything like this before on this street,” said Paul Scholl, who lives a few houses away. “Generally, this is a very quiet neighborhood. There’s mostly older people that live in this neighborhood and it’s kind of unusual to have this kind of activity.”

Scholl says he has seen very little of the people who live there since they moved in last November. “They were very quiet, never came out except to like mow the lawn and like that was it.”

Other neighbors didn’t seem to hear or see anything unusual overnight Saturday into Sunday except for a car that appeared to be towed to the driveway overnight. “When I was leaving in the morning, there was a white pickup and there was a town chain hooked to a black car that was right directly behind the white pickup truck,” said a neighbor named Richard Herman. “I’ve never seen either one of those cars on the street.”

Later on Sunday afternoon, Herman says a detective came to his door, a couple doors away and asked to inspect his garbage looking for clothing that may have been disposed in a neighbors garbage can. “I was just shocked. I just told him to do what he has to do with the investigation. I offered him to check the backyard if he wanted to because I was just in disbelief that they were coming around.”

As of late Monday, Cheektowaga Police had not released the name of the woman who was found dead or indicated how she may have died.

“We’re shocked that such a quiet neighborhood that something like this has taken place,.” said Scholl.
