WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Southwestern Blvd. is back open again after a fatal crash shut part of it down, twice.


54-year-old William J. Shotwell Jr. of Orchard Park was hit by a vehicle Tuesday evening and died while walking Southwestern Boulevard near Crofton Drive. An initial investigation by West Seneca Police reveals Shotwell was walking in the westbound passing lane of Southwestern Boulevard when he was hit.

First responders attempted CPR and used an AED to try and revive Shotwell. He was ultimately declared dead at the scene. We’re told the driver is cooperating with police as their investigation unfolds.

Investigators are asking people who may have seen the accident or have dashcam/surveillance footage to contact Lt. Pelow of the West Seneca Police Accident Investigation Unit at (716) 674-2280.


The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. and involved a male pedestrian.

It’s not clear if the person who died was the pedestrian or someone else.
