BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Grab your sledge hammers. A big dig is going on in Hamburg. The Penn Dixie site is hosting its annual “Dig with the Experts” event Saturday from 9am – 4pm.

The site is home to hundreds of thousands of marine fossils, dating back almost 400 million years. It attracts professional and amateur paleontologists from all over the world each year.

“These are really unique fossils, the preservation here is probably some of the best in the world, and again you can come and keep what you find, that’s what makes it really unique,” said Expert Digger Dan Cooper, who traveled from Cincinatti for the dig.
