Federal agents stepping in to help with investigation into death of 12-year-old

Federal authorities are assisting Buffalo police in the investigation into the shooting death of a 12-year-old boy, the Erie County District Attorney says.

Badraldeen Elwaseem died after a stray bullet flew into his second floor apartment on April 6th. He lived on William St., near Jefferson Ave.

District Attorney John Flynn noted the FBI’s street gang unit has been helpful with investigations in that neighborhood.

Elwaseem’s apartment is less than a block from the Towne Gardens apartment complex, where, last August, federal prosecutors and authorities said several members of the CBL-BFL gang operated.

A dozen members of that gang were charged with several crimes last summer.

“The federal task force has done a great job of cracking some cases of there in the Town Gardens area,” Flynn said. “By having the feds come in and help us out, that will be a great benefit to us.”

Flynn said detectives received a few tips last week, but not as many as they thought they might get. Reward money has been offered for information leading to an arrest, including $5,000 from the FBI.

An FBI spokesperson deferred all case-related questions to Buffalo police.
