Ground breaking held for African-American Veterans Monument at Buffalo and Erie County Naval Park

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Ground has been broken on the new African-American Veterans Monument at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval Park. 

Construction on the monument is set to begin in spring 2019. 

The monument will recognize the contributions of African-Americans who have served and are currently serving in all five branches of the military.  

So far, $1 million has been raised for the monument. An additional $500,000 is needed to fully fund the project.
