Hamburg Police release further details on incident involving captain

Local News

The Town of Hamburg Police Department released more details on the incident involving a police captain who since announced plans to retire following his arrest in May for an alleged domestic disturbance at his home.

According to the report, police received a 911 hang-up call from 3027 Bender Court. When they called back, Chris Monaco’s wife answered and said she misdialed and everything was okay.

Monaco’s brother, Lt. Jon Monaco, responded to the home to make sure everything was okay. Officers report Chris came outside and confronted his brother and started fighting with him.

As a result, Chris got a cut on his lip. A captain responded to the scene to act as a supervisor for the situation.

The report states captain Monaco was highly intoxicated, as well as physically and verbally abusive to responding officers.

His wife originally stated he hit her but later told officers that the argument was only verbal. She refused to be interviewed or file a report. During the incident, Monaco yelled at her not to talk to police.

Everyone involved refused to press charges at the scene.

A family member drove Monaco to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment.

Police did know of a previous domestic incident in 2017 between the two. Monaco did receive a charge of obstruction days later.

Since Monaco’s arrest, the town board voted 4-1 to accept his resignation.
