BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Buffalo News’ reports that the woman who accused NHL player and western New York native, Patrick Kane, 26, of rape “no longer wishes to cooperate” in the investigation.

The woman reportedly notified the Erie County District Attorney’s Office of her decision, saying the case “has caused tremendous stress for her and her family.”

She had accused the Chicago Blackhawks player of rape three months ago. The Buffalo News says “there are too many questions about the woman’s rape allegations for them to proceed with rape charges” against Kane.

Former Erie County District Attorney Frank Clark says, “It’s very difficult to proceed with an unwilling victim that makes it very hard under the best of circumstances. Now that you have a victim that is unwilling to proceed in light of all the other evidence that we have, my guess would be that the matter would be administratively closed.”

News 4 reports that a decision on whether or not the case will move forward could come by tomorrow.
