Landmark golf dome lasted 19 years

Local News

There’s some big changes coming to a big attraction in the Town of Tonawanda. After nearly two decades, the Paddock Chevrolet Golf Dome will be deflated Wednesday.

The landmark structure is set to come down sometime between 5:30 a.m. and  6 a.m. and, over the next couple of months, the groundwork will be set for a new one to replace it.

UPDATE — Here is what it looked like after the deflation:

The golf dome contains a driving range and a mini-golf course. The original one was built back in 1999.

“That particular one didn’t have the support structure that this one gave us,” said Mark Campanella Sr. Superintendent for Parks and Recreation in the Town of Tonawanda. “That was replaced in 2001 with this dome, which has lasted us some going on 19 years.”

And over those years, the town has been fighting back rot and deterioration.

Campanella says the new dome will have better support, a new foundation and drainage. And it will also have a new turf and a 20-year warranty.

All the work is expected to be completed by September.
