HENRIETTA, NY (WROC) – County leaders say a large Amazon facility is coming to the Rochester area.

While it’s not the second headquarters, County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says it will be the first Amazon distribution center in upstate New York. It will be located on Clay Road.

“This is an exciting day in the County of Monroe,” Dinolfo said. “Today we have learned Amazon is setting up shot, right here in Monroe County.”

Dinolfo calls the project a “huge win for Monroe County.” Both Dinolfo and developer Frank Imburgia say the project will create jobs, but weren’t able to put a number on how many jobs it will create. Imburgia said the amount of jobs would be “significant” but left it to Amazon for further details.

“It means local jobs for local people,” Dinolfo said. “It means jobs, jobs, jobs… The fact is Amazon had the choice to locate anywhere but they chose Monroe County.”

Dinolfo credited the bid Rochester made for the second Amazon headquarter as “opening the door” for the project.

“I have no doubt our region scored highly in Amazon’s quest and in their selection criteria because of just that,” Dinolfo explained. “World class colleges and universities, great people, great people, great locations — Monroe County is open for business.”

Imburgia says approvals for the facility are already in place and it could be open within 180 days or less. We’re told the lease for the facility was signed on Tuesday.

Officials couldn’t comment on tax breaks Amazon will get for the facility.
