BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) - Erie County Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy spoke to the media following Rep. Chris Collins decision to suspend his campaign.
Collins suspended his campaign on August 11, three days after he was arrested on insider trading charges.
Langworthy, speaking at the Erie County party headquarters, said that Collins made the "right decision" and that this would give the party a chance to have a fresh start.
"I feel better today than I did yesterday. When you see your elected officials arrested and indicted, it's jarring," Langworthy said.
He stated that over the next few days, the county GOP chairs in the 27th district will meet to find a replacement candidate.
That replacement could be one of more than a dozen people. Langworthy said there are 15 candidates who have shown interest in running.
