CITY OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — An accident involving three vehicles led to charges against a local man early Tuesday morning.
Police say a driver sped through a work zone, striking a New York State Department of Transportation arrow lane change truck. After colliding with the truck, police say the driver, identified as 44-year-old Salvatore Capella, crashed into another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, a pregnant 22-year-old, was rushed to Women and Children’s hospital.
After the crash, witnesses explained to police they saw Capella drive recklessly, weaving through traffic before finally colliding with work equipment. Police then charged Capella with imprudent speed, speeding in a work zone, unsafe lane change, driving on the shoulder and improper passing.
Transportation crew members suffered injury, although they were on scene at the time of the crash.
